Pegging named 2023's fetish of the year

Interest has been growing steadily the last few years.

Pegging, the act of anal penetration with a strap-on — usually a cis woman penetrating a cis man — has been named the 2023 fetish of the year by porn site Clips4Sale.

On Clips4Sale, search volume for pegging doubled since the beginning of the year — and that was before the unsubstantiated rumors about a certain "Prince of Pegging." Interest in the activity had grown steadily year to year, but given the royal gossip, it jumped even more in the latter half of 2022. Sales of pegging videos increased 81 percent from 2021 to 2022.

So, why the growing interest in pegging? In its blog post, Clips4Sale acknowledges that it's difficult to determine an explicit reason, but pointed to a rise in female-dominant fetishes the last few years as well, such as financial domination. While women fight for power and autonomy in the world (as in the protests for the overturning of Roe v. Wade this year), they're also asserting it in the bedroom.

Aside from pegging, other top fetish predictions are vore, the desire of being consumed, and chastity play. Sales of the former grew 23.5 percent in the past year, and the latter grew 13.6 percent. Sales isn't the only determinant for fetish of the year, though; it's also about the cultural moment.

"Outside of kink and fetish communities, vore is not yet part of the cultural dialogue, but it clearly has the strength to crossover," said a spokesperson at Clips4Sale.

"As for chastity play specifically, it draws strength from the popularity of JOI (Jerk Off Instruction), which has been one of the top selling genres for even vanilla creators," the spokesperson continued. "Coupled with the cultural anxiety around young people's declining sex rates, and the social media trends over 'semen retention,' it seemed really capture the current cultural mood."

And what is the sexual mood of 2023? "Reclaiming power through submission," said Clips4Sale's spokesperson. "Fetishes like giantess, chastity play and pegging are all moving in the same direction." Here's to more power play in 2023.
