Founded in 2004 by then-Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg as a way to rank fellow college students, Facebook would quickly become the largest social network on the planet and amass billions of users. The platform's popularity was bolstered by users looking to reconnect with old friends and connect with loved ones around the world.
